The new paddle tennis courts in Ticonderoga entail a two court platform tennis facility located at Eddie's Restaurant on Route 9N, just north of the Roger's Rock Campground on the northern end of Lake George. Paddle tennis combines the best elements of tennis, racquetball and squash, and is an easy sport to learn for players of all ages and abilities. It is the only outdoor racquet sport that is played year round. The approach we are using provides a useful platform for youth to engage in a fun, competitive sport while learning about the values of fair play and community service. The facilities also include lights for night play, a warming cabin for waiting to play in cold weather, and balls and racquets for use.
The program emphasizes opportunities for youth, both on and off the court. Teens may gain playing privileges for free in exchange for community volunteer service and children are always free. The "Platform for Life" program is a job training and youth leadership program designed to inspire area youth. Through mentoring and training, the program builds leadership skills, shapes character, and challenges participants to become responsible for themselves and their community.
The Northern Lake George Paddle Limited Liability Company (NLGP-LLC) was created to build and run the paddle tennis program. The NLGP-LLC is a Partnership between Dave Iuliano, Jane Ingrey, Patty Hogan and TRA. These three persons are the main investors and coordinators of the program, with TRA providing the key mechanism to make this not-for-profit undertaking feasible, and serving as the majority equity owner of the LLC. The Partners do not receive any financial benefit from proceeds of the LLC. Instead, the LLC puts any profits made via the paddle tennis operation into funding the "Platform for Life" and other Ticonderoga area community efforts, including "The Backpack Program" for Ticonderoga school students.
